ROOM book trailer

This upcoming book from Emma Donoghue looks really interesting. And potentially disturbing. More about the book here.

FYI

Our meeting has been moved to Tuesday, so I won't have recap up until Wednesday.

Online members - don't forget to add your suggestions for September's book.

Mockingjay - Chapter 1

Not sure how many of you have read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, but the third book in the trilogy, Mockingjay, comes out tomorrow and I could not be more excited. Here is the author, Suzanne Collins, reading chapter 1.

Alternative Titles

AKA "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
Dan Wilbur's "Better Book Titles" takes the guesswork out of some of literature's most well-known, yet mysterious titles. My favorite? The Scam - more commonly known as The Secret.

And the role of Lisbeth Salander goes to...

Rooney Mara. And IMDB wasted zero time in updating her page.

Apparently she beat out Scarlett Johansson (duh, way too rackalicious), Emma Watson, and Ellen Page for the role.

I also read that filming is to begin around Labor Day this year, with a December 2011 release date.

Has anyone seen the Swedish movie version? Is it worth watching?

Suggestions for September

Submit your suggestions for September's book by adding a comment to this post. We will be choosing at the August 26 meeting.

First meeting

Our first meeting will be held Thursday, August 26 at 7:30 pm at Whitney's apartment (address to be emailed). Snacks and wine will be provided - but feel free to bring anything you'd like. I'm thinking we'll keep with the Swedish theme and munch on lutefisk and pickled herring.

Come prepared to discuss the whole book - I'll have some questions prepared, but feel free to contribute your own. I'll post a recap of our discussion and questions to the blog on Friday so everyone can join/continue the conversation.

Hope you're all enjoying the book so far!
